Signs It’s Time to Remodel Your Bathroom
Not sure if you need a remodel or just a repair? A few clear signs point to a bigger fix.
If two or more of these sound familiar, a remodel will likely cost less than living with the problems and paying for repeated repairs.
Water stains, soft spots, or mold, which usually mean failed waterproofing
Leaking or failing plumbing
Cracked tile and crumbling grout
A poor layout that wastes space, or almost no storage
Rising water bills from old, inefficient fixtures
A high tub wall or tight, slippery space that is becoming a safety issue
A single, cramped bathroom in a busy household

How much does a bathroom remodel cost?
Cost depends on the size of the room, the materials you choose, and how much the layout changes. Nationally in 2026, most bathroom remodels run from about $8,000 to $30,000, with the typical project in the mid-teens. Smaller bathrooms sometimes cost more per square foot because plumbing, labor, and waterproofing do not scale down. The only way to get an accurate number is a local estimate, which we provide for free.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
Most bathroom remodels take a few weeks, depending on the scope. A single upgrade moves faster than a full renovation with plumbing and layout changes. During your consultation, we give you a realistic schedule for your project.
Do you handle plumbing and electrical work?
Yes. A proper remodel involves both, and we plan them into the project. Moving a shower, adding an outlet, or upgrading fixtures all need to be done correctly and to code. Handling it as one coordinated project avoids delays.
Can you do a tub-to-shower conversion?
Yes, this is one of our most requested services. We remove the old tub, adjust the plumbing, waterproof the area, and install your new shower. It opens up a tight bathroom and makes daily use easier.
Do you build walk-in or accessible showers?
Yes. We build low-threshold, walk-in showers with slip-resistant floors and blocking for grab bars, ideal for older adults or families planning ahead for aging in place.
Are you insured?
Yes, Prado’s Home Improvement is insured, which protects you and our team during the project. We keep our operation transparent and our communication clear from the first estimate onward.
Do I need permits for a bathroom remodel?
Most remodels with plumbing, electrical, or structural changes require a permit. In Belhaven, permits and inspections are handled through the Beaufort County Inspections Department in Washington, and the work must meet the North Carolina State Building Code. We plan the project to pass inspection and coordinate the permitting for you.
Do you remodel small bathrooms?
Yes, and small bathrooms are often where smart design makes the biggest difference. The right layout, storage, and fixtures can make a tight space feel open. We remodel powder rooms, hall baths, and compact primary baths across Belhaven and Beaufort County.
How do I get a free estimate?
Contact Prado’s Home Improvement to schedule a free, in-home consultation. We measure the space, talk through your goals, and give you a clear estimate with no pressure.
