Is your kitchen outdated, cramped, or built around a footprint from decades ago? New Bern NC has some of the oldest housing stock in North Carolina, and a kitchen remodel here often works with an original layout, older wiring, and older plumbing, not just new cabinets. Prado’s Home Improvement provides kitchen remodeling New Bern NC homeowners trust, and we assess what is behind your walls before recommending anything. Start with a free estimate.
As a kitchen remodeling contractor New Bern NC homeowners call for full projects, we treat every remodel as one connected project, new or original to downtown.
Worn cabinets, dated countertops, and old fixtures.
Kitchens built decades ago rarely fit modern appliances.
Common behind kitchens in older Craven County homes, and something we check before demolition, not after.
Original footprints leave little room to prep food.
Old cabinet layouts waste corners and vertical space.
Original kitchens were rarely wired for the lighting a modern kitchen needs.
New Bern NC is one of the oldest cities in North Carolina, and many homes near downtown, along Pollock Street, and in older established neighborhoods have kitchens that were never significantly updated. That usually means older wiring, undersized plumbing, and plaster or original wood-frame walls that complicate layout changes, with load-bearing walls not always where you would expect. We assess the structure before recommending an open-concept change or wall removal, so there are no surprises once demolition starts. Interior kitchen work generally does not trigger New Bern’s historic-district exterior design review, which addresses changes visible from the street. Our focus is the construction inside the walls, not exterior approval.
The right scope depends on your kitchen’s condition and your goals.
New cabinets, countertops, backsplash, fixtures, or lighting, without touching the layout or systems.
Layout changes, plumbing and electrical updates, and every finish coordinated as one project.
We look at your kitchen, the walls, and what is behind them.
We map what can realistically change given the home’s structure.

We remove the old kitchen and protect the rest of the home.
We update what the new layout needs, including old wiring and plumbing we find behind the walls.
We install cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and flooring.
We complete the details and review the kitchen with you.
New Bern NC sits where the Neuse and Trent Rivers meet, and humidity near the water affects material choices, favoring moisture-aware cabinets, flooring, and finishes. For homes in a mapped flood zone, Craven County requires a floodplain permit for development in a Special Flood Hazard Area, and federal rules generally treat a renovation as a substantial improvement once cost reaches about half the structure’s value. This rarely applies to a kitchen remodel alone, but for a home near a flood zone, we note it during our assessment.
Prado’s Home Improvement handles your remodel from planning through the final walkthrough.
